If you are on this site you may already have the answer to the question,
“Why should I move to the Philippines?” or “Why do I want to move to the Philippines?”
But there are many of you out there who do not know the answer or who have not completely made up your minds yet. So let’s see if I can help you make a decision one way or another.
I am from New Jersey, USA but I’ve been living in the Philippines since 2005. I moved here for a variety of reasons, some of which may match your own.
Let’s look at a few of the most common reasons why people move to the Philippines.
- Cost of Living
The Philippines has a very low cost of living. Food, medical care, education, housing, entertainment, utilities, ____ are all incredibly cheap when compared to living in many richer countries.
The climate here is warm year round and is perfect for retirees. When you couple the weather with the low cost of living and the large expatriate community the Philippines becomes an ideal retirement location.
Education in the Philippines is very cheap in comparison to many richer nations and the quality in many of the universities here is excellent. Best of all classes are taught in English so no matter what country you’re from as long as you speak and understand English you can study here to get a quality education at a much lower cost than in many other countries. Also because English is spoken by so many Filipinos it is a perfect place to improve or learn English if that is what you are interested in.
- Looking for Love
It’s no secret that the Philippines is filled with some of the most beautiful women in the world so many single men will move here looking for that special someone or because they found that special someone online. Filipinas are some of the most romantic and loving women on Earth.
- Party Time!!!
Filipinos love a good party and the nightlife here is incredible. Comedy clubs, night clubs, discos, KTV’s (Karaoke Bars), etc… You name it and you’ll find it in the Philippines.
- History & Culture
The Philippines has a very old, rich, and diverse culture. Having been under the control of the Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and the Americans for so much of it’s history the Philippines has adopted traditions from many cultures and they are all on display in their food, architecture, music, traditional clothing, and especially in their language.
- Natural Beauty
The Philippines is home so many natural wonders it’s hard to list them all. Volcanoes, lush gardens and jungles, beautiful beaches and sea life. The Philippines has it all. Actually, the Philippines is listed as one of the Top 5 Scuba Diving Spots in the World.
- Sports & Recreation
Scuba diving is just one of the many activities available in the Philippines. There is also hiking, mountain climbing, surfing, golf, camping, backpacking, sunbathing, water sports, sightseeing tours, etc…..
- Friends or Expatriate Community
Many people visit the Philippines and during those visits they make friends that they keep in touch with. Others meet people online who live or visit here often. As a result they want to be closer to their friends and so it becomes a factor in their decision to move here. Also the Philippines has a large and diverse expatriate (expat) community which means you won’t have to look far to find people here who are from your country or area of the world. This is important because it will help reduce the culture shock you may experience living in a foreign land.
The Philippines is an up and coming country with an economy that’s just begging to explode. The Philippines may have a bad reputation for a number of reasons but many people are unaware of the investment opportunities as well as the unexplored potential here. The Filipino people may not be among Asia’s richest but they are a modern people who love to shop and commerce is most certainly alive and well here.So if you are looking to start or expand your business into a foreign market the Philippines is an option worth exploring.
